Rekha is one of the most charming actresses in the Bollywood industry, who has successfully spent more than four decades in the film industry with featuring in more than 150 movies. Rekha recently celebrated her 66th birthday.

Bhanurekha Ganesan, well-known as Rekha, is one of the most charming actresses in the Bollywood industry. She was born on October 10, 1954. Who has successfully spent more than four decades in the film industry with featuring in more than 150 movies. Moreover, her achievement list is quite lengthy as she won one National Award, three Filmfare Awards, and a Padma Shri in the year 2010. Rekha recently celebrated her 66th birthday.

Rekha was born as Rekha Ganesan in Chennai to Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli.

The B-Town diva has one sister, five half-sisters, and a half-brother.

Rekha on the professional front:

Rekha started her acting journey as a child actor with the film, Rangula Ratnam. Born to a famous South Indian filmmaker, Rekha shot to fame with the film, Anjana Safar. The actor got fame after some successful films such as Umraao Jaan, Silsila, Khoobsurat, and Khoon Bhari Maang. She last hit the big screens with Super Naani along with Randhir Kapoor.

Ugly Duckling:

The one of the charming personalities in Bollywood, was called as an ‘ugly duckling’ during her initial days in the industry. Later, the actor revealed in one interview that due to her dark complexion and South Indian features, she was tagged as an ‘ugly duckling’. Surprisingly, Rekha transformed herself  and in ‘Do Anjaane’ she showed the world, a new side of her.

Molestation on a 15-year-old Rekha:

During the shoot of her first film Anjana Safar, in Mumbai’s Mehboob Studio, a 15-year-old Rekha had to face ‘molestation’, in the hands of the film’s director Raja Nawathe and its star Biswajeet Chatterjee. Previously, Raja and Biswajeet had it all set, when the scene was to be shot was a romantic kissing scene.

Vinod Mehra’s mother once almost beat up Rekha with a chappal 

In an excerpt published in TOI, when Vinod Mehra, Rekha’s rumored hubby, took her to his house in Bombay, after getting tied in knot in Calcutta, Vinod’s mother was immensely against to Rekha. As per report, the lady pushed her away when she went to touch her mother-in-law’s feet. Vinod Mehta’s mother denied to let the new ‘bride’ enter the house. Vinod tried to control the situation but his mother was out of control. Moreover, she reportedly took off her sandals and almost assaulted Rekha with it. Rekha started moving towards the lift, with heavy heart, as a crowd began gathering around the flat. Her husband, Vinod requested her to stay at his house till matters became normal.

Rekha’s entrance at Rishi-Neetu wedding party, wearing sindoor and mangalsutra:

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh tied the knot on January 22, 1980. Neetu and Rekha used to sharing a strong bond. In that event, Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya Bachchan, and his parents were also invited. During that time, Rekha made a ‘sensational entry’, wearing a spectacular white sari, with a red bindi on her forehead, and red sindoor on her hair. All the cameras soon started focusing on Rekha, instead of  the newly married couple Rishi-Neet.

As per the reports, Rekha walked up to the center of RK Studios’ garden and stood there. But her eyes kept wandering towards Amitabh Bachchan, who was having conversation with director Manmohan Desai.

Reportedly, it was Rekha who made the first initiative to phone call the entrepreneur Mukesh Agarwal. She was looking to get settled down while Mukesh was a big fan of her. Soon phone calls led to meeting and within a month of knowing each other, the two got married.

On October 2, 1990, seven months after their marriage, Mukesh, who reportedly seemed happy on the fateful day, as per his brother Anil, Mukesh committed suicide in fully filmy style, he tied one end of Rekha’s dupatta to the ceiling fan, made a noose out of it and then hanged himself to death with it.

Rekha got to know that Mukesh had chronic depression, which apparently, ran in his family. He was also involved with his psychiatrist ‘Akash Bajaj’. Soon, cracks appeared in the marriage as Mukesh began exhibiting erratic behavior. He kept Rekha in the dark about his failing business, became too overbearing and started embarrassing her by leaving his work in Delhi and coming to Bombay and hanging around on her sets without any reason. After the incident, people all over the nation started hating and shaming her as a cold-hearted man-eater.
