Surekha Sikri, the grandmother in TV Serial ‘Balika Vadhu’, is no more. Surekha Sikri, 76, passed away today on the morning of 16 July 2021 due to cardiac arrest. Not only her family but her fans and entire Bollywood are mourning due to her death. From TV to Bollywood, people are paying tribute to the Veteran actress with moist eyes on social media for her strong acting skills.

Surekha Sikri was born in Delhi on April 19, 1945 but grew up in Amroha and Nainital. But do you know that Surekha, who won the hearts of everyone due to her amazing performance in the field of acting, never wanted to come in the field of acting? Yes Surekha had a dream to become a journalist but fate had decided something else for her. Surekha was also very good at studies. She completed her graduation from Aligarh Muslim University. And that’s where her luck turned.

In fact, it happened that once in her college, Abraham Alkazi Sahab arrived and presented a play called ‘The King Lear’. It is said that this play impressed Surekha’s sister a lot and she made up her mind to enroll Surekha in the National School of Drama . Then her sister brought the form of NSD. But this form remained in the house for several days. After this Surekha’s mother told her that why she does not fill this form. Surekha agreed to the mother’s request and filled the form. Her luck turned out to be good and she got selected. After this Surekha did theater for a long time. Then she started her acting career in Bollywood with the film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ in the year 1978.

After this she came in 1986 ‘Tamas’, ‘Nazar’ in 1991, ‘Sardari Begum’ in 1996, ‘Sarfarosh’ in 1999, ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha’ in 2004, and was last seen in a comedy film ‘Badhaai Ho’ in 2018. 

Surekha turned to the small screen after working for a long time in the film industry. Surekha’s first TV serial was ‘Balika Vadhu’. In this, she played the role of a tough mother-in-law. This role gave him a special place in the hearts of the audience overnight. Apart from this, she was seen in the role of strict mother-in-law in ‘Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani’, ‘Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil’.

She used to live in everyone’s heart due to her strong mood and her wonderful acting. She has lived every role very beautifully and has played every character very well. Surekha Sikri worked in Malayalam films apart from television and Bollywood.

Surekha Sikri was awarded the National Award not once but thrice for her best acting. She was awarded the National Award for the film Tamas in 1986, Mammo in 1995 and Badhaai Ho in the year 2018. She played the role of Ayushmann Khurrana’s grandmother in Badhaai Ho and her character was well received by the audience.
