Over a 4-year-old drugs case, ED summoned Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja, and other Tollywood celebrities
The agency had taken over the probe based on a case registered in Telangana in 2017 in link with a high-end drugs racket.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned twelve Tollywood celebrities in connection with 4-year-old drug trafficking and consumption case registered by Telengana Excise and Prohibition Department.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned 12 Tollywood actors and directors, including Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, and Ravi Teja, in connection with a four-year-old drugs case. An ED official confirmed that the financial probe agency has summoned Rakul Preet, Daggubati, Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, and Mumaith Khan, among others, for questioning on separate dates.
In July 2017, the Special Investigation Team of Hyderabad Excise And Prohibition Department launched an investigation against some Tollywood celebrities along with others. The SIT team has a list of about 62 suspects which also includes celebrities. As of yet, no charge sheet has been filed against any of the Tollywood celebrities. The report in India Today also said that the SIT team hasn’t clarified the involvement of the celebrities.
‘Around 12 cases were booked by Telangana Excise and Prohibition department and 11 charge sheets were filled. Mostly drug traffickers around eight persons were charge-sheeted in the cases then. Most of them are lower-level drug traffickers. We have called excise officials as witnesses. Likewise, till we get evidence Tollywood celebrities will be considered as witnesses. Likewise, till we get evidence Tollywood celebrities will be considered as witnesses. Their names have figured in the investigation,” said an ED official.
In 2017, SIT questioned around 62 suspects including 11 Tollywood celebrities in connection with the drugs case. So far, around 30 people have been arrested in the matter. The SIT had collected blood, hair, nail, and other samples from some of those who appeared before it for questioning and sent them for analysis.
